M.A., Marriage and Family Therapist
I am a relational therapist who believes that healing comes through connection with ourselves and others. Psychotherapy allows the opportunity to experience "being" in a new way. The problems that bring us to therapy require new perspectives, new approaches, new learning and re-learning. By using language, memory, and emotional experiencing in the presence of a supportive and compassionate other, the possibility for change is leveraged. I use my extensive training in intensive Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Psychodynamic theory as well as my passion for affective neuroscience to support clients in learning new skills, re-considering the past, and reshaping the way we experience emotions.
Areas of Expertise
Counseling, Psychotherapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, Buddhist Psychology.
My philosophy is to use an approach shaped by the client's current problems and their own philosophies, interests, and affinities. No therapy, no patient, no approach can be the same as every relationship has its own "fingerprint". I am a lifelong learner who thrives when I'm researching and studying. I practice what I preach and I will never make recommendations that I don't have direct experience with myself. I'm highly collaborative and I believe my clients are the experts on themselves. You can expect me to be highly disclosing of theory, evidence, and research. I will always direct my clients to ways they can practice in between sessions and resources they can access to supplement weekly therapy.
